Global Compensation of Long-range Beam-beam Interactions with Multipole Correctors

چکیده
To control the nonlinear effects of long-range beambeam interactions due to a large number of non-localized parasitic collisions, we propose a global compensation scheme for long-range beam-beam interactions by using magnetic multipole correctors based on a minimization of nonlinearities in one-turn maps of a storage ring collider. Simulation study on a test model that is similar to LHC showed that this global compensation of the long-range beam-beam interactions is effective in increasing the dynamic aperture and improving the linearity of the phasespace region occupied by beams.

Magnetic Field Alignment in the Beam-Beam Compensation Device
Guiding solenoidal magnetic field of the Tevatron beambeam compensation device has to be carefully aligned with respect to a straight trajectory of the antiproton beam. We present in this paper an optical method which allows to measure the direction of the magnetic field, results of magnetic measurements, and results of the field quality improvement with dipole correctors.
متن کاملHigh Energy High Intensity Hadron Beams EXPERIMENTS ON LHC LONG-RANGE BEAM-BEAM COMPENSATION IN THE CERN SPS
Long-range beam-beam collisions may limit the dynamic aperture and the beam lifetime in colliders. Their effect can be compensated by a current-carrying wire mounted parallel to the beam. A compensation scheme based on this principle has been proposed for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). To demonstrate its viability, a prototype wire was installed at the CERN SPS in 2002. First successful machi...
متن کاملForm-factor representation and multipole expansion of the retarded interatomic dispersion energy
Dispersion-relation methods are used to derive a form-factor representation for the retarded dispersion energy of two hydrogen atoms that are described by relativistic electron theory. By expressing the electromagnetic form factors in terms of atomic transition matrix elements the complete multipole expansion of the interatomic dispersion energy is obtained. The long-range asymptotic limit of t...
متن کاملLong-Range Beam–Beam Compensation Using Wires
At the LHC, the effect of unavoidable long-range beam–beam collisions reduces the dynamic aperture, calling for a minimum crossing angle. A wire compensator partially cancels the effect of the long-range collisions, and may allow operation with reduced crossing angle or decreased beta function at the interaction point, thereby increasing the (virtual) peak luminosity. In this chapter, we descri...
متن کاملCompensation Scheme of Elliptical Polarization from Bending Magnet at SRRC
A prototype elliptical polarization from bending magnet ( EPBM) system with a dynamic local bump has been implemented at the SRRC storage ring. The local bump is created by using two pairs of vertical correctors located on each side of the bending. The bump strength coeffieient was obtained from measured beam response matrix. Disurbance of stored electron beam orbit was boserved while flipping ...
